A reborn baby doll is a vinyl or silicone one, finished to look and feel like a real infant — hand-painted skin, rooted hair and a weighted body. This guide covers what they are, how they are made, the sizes and the real price bands, so you can choose or specify one with confidence.
Reborn dolls start from a blank sculpt and are transformed through painting, hair rooting and weighting until they read as a real newborn. The term comes from the practice of “reborning” a factory vinyl kit into a lifelike figure. They are bought as collector pieces, comfort objects, gifts and — increasingly — as therapy dolls for care settings.
Production runs through defined stations: molding the parts, airbrushing up to a dozen translucent paint layers for realistic skin, rooting hair one strand at a time, assembling a weighted cloth or silicone body, then dressing and finishing. An approved reference sample defines the agreed finish; tooling and material availability are confirmed for each reorder. See the full flow on the reborn doll factory.
The two materials sit at different price points and answer different buyers. Full-body silicone baby dolls are solid, dense and collectible; vinyl and cloth-body dolls are lighter, water-washable and built for volume and institutional use. The full comparison is on our silicone vs vinyl guide.
We run from 6″ miniatures to 26″ toddlers. Size and material together decide weight: an 18″ full-body silicone can reach 3,630 g, while an 18″ vinyl runs 760–1,180 g. Newborn-scale pieces sit around 16″–18″; older-baby and toddler sculpts run 20″–26″. Full size detail is on the newborn baby dolls and reborn toddler dolls pages.
Retail price tracks material and paint grade. Vinyl and cloth-body dolls are the accessible tier; full-body silicone at artist grade is the top of the market. Our reborn doll price guide breaks the bands down, and the affordable options page lists the entry points.
We build to a reference photo, an existing sculpt or a spec sheet — head and body, hair, eyes, mouth, paint grade, outfit and your own labelling. Every confirmed sample is sealed and archived privately so your sculpt never appears in another customer’s catalogue. Start a project on the custom dolls page.
Vinyl and cloth-body dolls are water-washable and low maintenance. Silicone needs a little more care: keep it out of direct sun, dress it in soft cotton, and avoid sharp jewellery. Both materials are durable when handled as the keepsakes they are.
Compare available models in our reborn doll catalogue, specify a production run through OEM/ODM, or read the where to buy guide for the options by region and order size.
Brands, retailers and care providers order to their required quantities, with sealed samples and documentation for tender cycles. Only HF-series models have a minimum order quantity; other series have no minimum order quantity. Tell us your price band and buyer and we will spec the line — including when the cheaper material is the right answer.
