Collections · Made to order
Everything about a reborn doll can be specified — sculpt, skin tone, hair, eyes, weight and finish. This page sets out what is genuinely reproducible, what a photo can and cannot give you, and how a custom order actually runs from brief to sealed sample.
Start with the sculpt: an existing design from our library, or a new one developed for you. From there, every finish variable is open:
This is the most requested feature and the one most often oversold, so here is the honest position. A photograph gives us skin tone, hair colour and eye colour, roughly. It does not give us a face — that comes from the sculpt, and no amount of painting turns one sculpt into a different person.
What we can do is finish to a photo: match tone, hair and eyes closely, and choose the sculpt that is closest in proportion and feature. What we cannot do is produce a literal likeness of an individual, and any supplier promising that is either misunderstanding the craft or counting on you not checking. Bring the photo and we will tell you what is achievable before any work starts.
Skin is built from translucent layers rather than a single flat coat, so tone is a matter of how many passes of which pigments — which is why an unusual or very specific tone costs more time and can take an extra sample round.
Hair choice changes both the look and the price meaningfully. Rooted mohair is the most convincing and the slowest, adding hours per head. Painted hair is honest and appropriate for newborn styles where hair is sparse. Synthetic fibre sits between the two on both counts. Eye colour is the cheapest variable to change and the one buyers most often regret choosing quickly — ask for swatch photographs before committing.
Weight is specified as a target, and construction determines what is achievable. An 18″ full-body silicone doll can be built up to roughly 3,630 g, close to a real newborn; the same size in cloth-body vinyl tops out around 1,150 g. If a specific weight matters to you — for a gift, or because it needs to be held for long periods — say the number at brief stage, not after sampling.
Weight distribution matters as much as the total. It should be concentrated so the head tips back into the crook of your arm rather than sitting upright. Our lifelike dolls page explains how that affects the result.
Four stations, and you approve before each advances:
A custom order costs more than a ready-made doll for two reasons: a new sculpt carries tooling cost, and the finishing is specified rather than standardised. Private label on an existing sculpt is the cheapest custom route, because it skips tooling entirely and only changes branding and packaging.
When is custom worth it? When the finish is the product — a gift that has to match something specific, a retailer line that has to differ from what everyone else stocks, or a care programme with a defined resident profile. When you are simply testing a market, a ready-made style tells you almost as much for far less. See the reborn doll price guide for the bands.
For resale, custom work starts with what you are trying to sell rather than with a sculpt. Tell us the retail price point and the buyer, and we will propose two or three specifications that hit it — including which material and finishing grade to use, and where cutting a corner is safe.
Only HF-series models have a minimum order quantity; other series have no minimum order quantity. EXW or FOB terms are available. Styles developed for you are archived privately: your sculpt is not resold to another customer, and so reorders can be checked against the agreed sample and any changes confirmed before production. See wholesale & OEM/ODM or the reborn doll artists for how bespoke work differs from factory production.

FAQ
Yes, in the sense of finishing to a photo — matching skin tone, hair and eye colour, and choosing the closest sculpt in proportion and feature. A literal portrait of a specific person is not achievable from a photograph, and we will tell you that before you order.
More than a ready-made doll, because a new sculpt carries tooling cost and the finishing is specified rather than standardised. Private label on an existing sculpt is the cheapest custom route. Our price guide sets out the bands by material and grade.
Sample and production lead times are confirmed with your quote after the specification, quantity and tooling requirements are agreed. EXW or FOB shipping terms are confirmed with the order.
The sculpt, skin tone and mottling, hair type and colour, eye colour and treatment, mouth treatment, target weight and body construction, clothing, labelling and packaging. In short, everything except the underlying face, which comes from the sculpt.
Yes — that is most of our custom work. Only HF-series models have a minimum order quantity; other series have no minimum order quantity. Bring the retail price point and your buyer profile and we will propose specifications that hit it, including where it is safe to economise.
Yes. For a single gift doll, choose a sculpt and specify the finish; a new sculpt is rarely worth the tooling cost for one unit. For gifting, 18″ is the usual choice because it reads as newborn and standard baby clothing fits.
